Patrick Cummins Withdraws from UFC Albany Bout with Gian Villante

Patrick Cummins announced on Friday that he has withdrawn from his scheduled fight with Gian Villante.

Cummins and Villante were supposed to square off at next week’s UFC Fight Night 102 at Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. Cummins, however, had to pull out of the fight due to a staph infection. He announced the move via Twitter.

Patrick Cummins at UFC 170It’s an unfortunate turn of events for both men, who have had trouble getting back in the Octagon after having last fought in spring, earlier this year.

Villante, having lost two of his last three bouts, was originally slated to return at UFC 205 on Nov. 12, but had to pull out of the fight due to a minor injury.

Cummins, who has just one victory to his credit in his last four fights, was looking forward to his first payday since losing to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in May.

A heavyweight showdown between Derrick Lewis and Shamil Abdurakhimov headlines the UFC Fight Night 102 card.
