Despite being one of the more accomplished Brazilian fighters in mixed martial arts, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will be fighting in his home country for the first time on May 9. The Jungle Fight promotion on Sunday announced that Nogueira will face Dion Staring in the main event of Jungle Fight Ceara in Fortaleza, Brazil.

On a four-fight winning streak, Nogueira maintains a 16-3 professional record. The Team Nogueira fighter is training in Brazil for the fight.

“I am training hard here in Rio de Janeiro for this fight,” he said. “I know I have a tough opponent ahead, so I’m very dedicated. I’m happy to fight for the first time in Brazil and hopefully make a great presentation.”

His opponent is a member of the Golden Glory team in Holland, training with the likes of Alistair Overeem and Semmy Schilt. Staring has a professional record of 15-5.

“(Staring) is a tough guy who trains with great fighters in Netherlands, he’s not a fool. Who expected that Minotouro was going to face an easy opponent is wrong, you will see a very tough guy. It will be a war,” said Jungle Fights promoter Wallid Ismail.

Never holding more than four events in a single year in its six-year history, Ismail has ambitious plans for the rest of the year for Jungle Fights.

“Our plan is to consolidate the Jungle Fight as the largest event in Latin America,” he explained. “I want to make an event every month until the end of the year, showing new talents and producing great fights. We do not want to go to the U.S., we want to export our talents to there, as we did with athletes like Lyoto Machida, Fabricio Werdum, Paulo Thiago, Gabriel Gonzaga, among many others.”

Jungle Fight Ceara will be held in the sands of the beach of Iracema in Fortaleza, a beautiful city in the northeast region of Brazil.
