After serving a six month suspension for a positive marijuana test that saw his last victory over current #1 lightweight fighter Takanori Gomi erased, Nick Diaz will return to fighting on September 15th for Elite XC at their show in Hawaii as announced today by Gary Shaw.

Diaz defeated Gomi in one of the most exciting fights thus far in 2007 using the rarely used gogo-plata, but after the positive test, the Nevada State Athletic Commission changed the result of the win to a no contest and since that time Diaz has been waiting to return to active competition.

He recently called out StrikeForce middleweight champion Frank Shamrock for a match-up at 185lbs but Elite XC President Gary Shaw confirmed that Diaz will return in September at 160lbs.

Shaw confirmed that the organization will not shy away from having different and lighter weight classes to display their fighter’s talents so as of now Diaz will be fighting at 160lbs instead of 155lbs.

Shaw also confirmed that when Diaz fought Gomi he was under contract with Elite XC but the organization gave him permission to fight Gomi. Shaw believes that he wants his fighters to get the best fights in the world, no matter where that is.

As of now, no opponent has been named to face Diaz but the entire card for the September 15th show should be announced shortly.
