It’s title shot or bust for UFC welterweight Rory MacDonald.

Following his technical knockout of Tarec Saffiedine at UFC Fight Night Halifax, MacDonald made it abundantly clear that he wants his next fight to be for the 170-pound title.

According to MacDonald, there’s no one out there that currently fits the bill better than him.

“Yeah, I really don’t see anyone else [getting the title shot],” MacDonald said, during the post-fight press conference. “I beat some really good guys this year and I think beating a guy like Tarec — I said in many interviews that he’s one of the best in the world in the welterweight division. I feel like I had a good fight against him tonight. Hopefully the UFC takes notice and puts in for that title shot so I can bring it back here to Canada.”

Welterweight champion Johny Hendricks is currently booked to defend his title against Robbie Lawler at UFC 181 this December, which is a rematch of their UFC 171 fight from last March.

MacDonald said he hopes to face the winner of the two. But in regard to whom of the two the young Canadian prefers to face, MacDonald said it isn’t so much about the fight he wants. More so, he explained, he just wants the better of the two.

“I just want to fight the best man, so whoever,” he said, adding that he didn’t know who will come out on top at UFC 181.”They’re both really good guys. They had a really close fight in the last one and Johny pulled it out there in the last minute of the last round, so who knows who’s going to bring it.”

Now that his fight is done, MacDonald can now sit back as a fan and watch the drama of the UFC welterweight division unfold. Specifically, he’ll be watching UFC 181 with a curious eye, hopefully preparing to greet the winner between Hendricks and Lawler.

“I just hope they’re going to put up a good fight again and may the best man win.”
