- FARRAR GETS HIS CHANCE AT WEC GOLD TONIGHT

On Sunday night, Chance Farrar will look to capitalize on the biggest opportunity in his young MMA career, as he takes on WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber in the main event of the World Extreme Cagefighting's debut on the Versus network.
Farrar is a relatively unknown fighter, spending his entire career in the confines of Total Combat becoming somewhat of a cult hero in the small promotion. Though not many give him a chance against the popular Faber, Farrar is probably the toughest fighter that Faber has faced in the past year.
Farrar has racked up an impressive record in MMA with five victories and no losses. Although he is relatively inexperienced, don't let his record deceive you. Farrar is a former NAIA wrestling champion and without a doubt will be the best wrestler that Faber has faced in his career.
Farrar is somewhat of a quick learner, developing some strong striking skills to complement his wrestling credentials. Always the avid learner, Farrar has spent the last couple months under the tutelage of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Dean Lister, learning how to mix his wrestling with submission skills in order to be effective to neutralize Faber's relentless ground and pound.

Although most fans know nothing about Farrar, they shouldn't be quick to discredit him in his opportunity to become the new WEC Featherweight Champion. He has shown quick progression as a fighter in the short span that he has been in MMA, something that a lot of fighters take much longer to do. Farrar has moved away from the stigma of being just a wrestler both by displaying knockout power and submission skills on the ground, not sticking to the basic formula of taking his opponent down and throwing the occasional shots en route to winning a decision.
None of Farrar's fights have ever gone past the first round, meaning that he has a knack for taking care of business in a rather quick fashion.
Farrar actually matches up rather well with Faber; both fighters are basically clones of one another. They both have to notch wrestling skills and each has shown quick adaptation to becoming complete fighters in MMA. Both enjoy pushing the pace of the fight, which will make for an exciting fight that fans will not soon forget, especially with the fight being telecast live on Versus. No matter what the result is on Sunday night, Farrar has earned his chance at the WEC Featherweight Championship and will no longer be an unknown commodity in MMA.
