A welterweight bout between Mike Pyle and Jake Ellenberger has been verbally agreed to for UFC 108, according to Xtreme Couture MMA. The event takes place on Jan. 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Pyle (19-6-1) enters the bout following a win over Chris Wilson at UFC Fight Night 19 in September, after losing his promotional debut to Brock Larson. He has won five of his six most recent bouts.

Ellenberger (21-5) is coming off of a strong performance in his Octagon debut, losing a split decision to former WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit on the same Fight Night card as Pyle’s last bout.

Relatively new to the promotion, Pyle and Ellenberger are fighting to establish themselves in a crowded 170-pound division ruled by current champion Georges St-Pierre.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced on Monday that a light heavyweight bout between Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva would move into the headlining slot at UFC 108. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was supposed to face rising contender Cain Velasquez in the main event, but Nogueira had to withdraw due to a severe staph infection.
