It’s less than a month until fight time, but the inaugural UFC on FX fight card is the latest to be hit by the dreaded injury bug, losing former WEC champion Mike Brown.

Brown’s tenure in the UFC had been on shaky ground, losing his first two starts for the promotion since the UFC-WEC merger at the beginning of the year. He bounced back in August, however, with a unanimous decision victory over Nam Phan at UFC 133 in Philadelphia.

His professional record now a health 25-8, the American Top Team fighter was looking forward to a showdown with Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Vagner Rocha at the Jan. 20 UFC on FX 1 fight card slated for Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

He’ll have to sit this one out, however, due to the undisclosed injury.

With several weeks left until fight time, it’s likely the UFC will secure new opposition for Rocha and keep him on the card.

A lightweight battle between Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller heads the UFC on FX 1 event, the winner climbing back into the race for a title shot.
