Entering Saturday night’s UFC on FOX 29, Michelle Waterson was coming off of back-to-back losses, but funny enough, she didn’t put a lot of pressure on herself to win, after all, she’s doing something that she loves to do…
“I kept having to tell myself, Michelle, you fight because you love to do it. Don’t make this a chore. Don’t make this something you have to do.”
That strategy paid off, as Waterson ended up getting the better of Cortney Casey in Glendale, Az., earning a split-decision nod from the judges and getting back on track.
Getting the “W” is great, but it really leads into something that Waterson, a proud 32-year-old mom, will relish years down the road.
“How cool is it gonna be when I’m 70 years old and talking to my grandchildren telling them (in her best granny voice), ‘You know, when I was your age, I used to beat people up for a living,’ and they’re gonna be like, ‘yeah right, grandma.'”
