Michael Johnson Draws Streaking Beneil Dariush, Not Cowboy, for Next Fight

June 5, 2015

Michael Johnson has his next fight set, but it won’t be against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, as he would have liked. Instead, he will square off with Beneil Dariush at UFC Fight Night: Teixeira vs. St. Preux on Aug. 8 in Nashville, Tenn.

UFC officials confirmed the bout on Friday, following an initial report by FOXSports.com.

Johnson (16-8) had been calling for a fight with Cerrone, the No. 1 UFC lightweight contender. Despite Cerrone’s recent tweet that he wouldn’t necessarily wait for champion Rafael dos Anjos to come back late this year before he fights again, the UFC didn’t pull the trigger on a Cerrone vs. Johnson.

Johnson’s most recent wins were against Edson Barboza, Melvin Guillard, Gleison Tibau, and Joe Lauzon. Dariush most recently defeated Jim Miller, Daron Cruickshank, Carlos Diego Ferreira, and Tony Martin.

UFC Fight Night in Nashville features a five-round light heavyweight main event pitting Glover Teixeira against Ovince St. Preux.
