Cris Cyborg has long said that she wants to build the women’s featherweight division in the UFC, and she’s putting her money where her mouth is.
Season 28 of The Ultimate Fighter is holding tryouts for 145-pound ladies who want to enter the Octagon, perhaps one day squaring off with Cyborg. But not only did women showing up to try out, they were welcomed by the champ herself.
Fighters from around the globe were in attendance at Tuesday’s tryout with Cyborg walking around welcoming them and having them introduce themselves. She even set up a pre-arranged dinner for the athletes that are sticking around in Vegas and wanted somewhere to hang out.
Cyborg (20-1, 1 NC) is coming off of a stretch where she fought three times in eight months. During that span, she won the UFC featherweight championship and defended it twice.
Cyborg doesn’t currently have her next fight scheduled yet, largely due to a UFC division that has very few opponents for her. She is hoping that The Ultimate Fighter is just the first step toward building the division for generations to come.
