by Damon Martin – MMAWeekly.com While Saturday night didn’t yield a win for Jorge Masvidal over Paul Daley, the Florida based fighter was still rewarded with a 6-fight contract to compete in the Strikeforce lightweight division.

The signing was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fighter, and was first reported by BuddhaSports.com on Sunday.

Masvidal (20-6) has been on the cusp of stardom several times, but struggled to get over the hump in some of his big fights. Previously fighting in organizations like Sengoku and Bellator Fighting Championships, Masvidal has proven regardless of any shortcomings that he is a tough match-up for anyone that steps in the cage with him.

Going 6-4 over his last 10 fights, Masvidal has actually fought for Strikeforce two times previously, most recently in 2008 with a win over Ryan Healy.

The American Top Team member will look to cement himself in a tough lightweight division, currently headed up by champion Gilbert Melendez, and featuring several top contenders.

There’s been no official word about when Masvidal’s debut may happen, but with his fight in Shark Fights just last Saturday night, it will likely be several weeks before he could be headed back into action.
