UFC Hall of Famer, former welterweight champion Matt Hughes
joins the show to discuss Lawler’s coronation as the 170-pound kingpin of the Octagon.
“I wanted to be the first guy to put that belt around Robbie Lawler,” the former Miletich Fighting Systems star told MDR. Hughes admitted he was worried the decision wouldn’t go Lawler’s way even though he was 90-percent sure “Ruthless” won the fight from reading the crowd and watching the fight cageside. The biggest change that led to Lawler seizing the belt is “maturity,” Hughes stated.
“When I was watching Robbie fight, half the time I was looking up thinking what should be happening with my buddy and the other half, I had my head down praying,” said Hughes. “Right now I’m just thankful that everything worked out for my buddy.”
Plus World Series of Fighting featherweight Lance Palmer talks how he got the nickname “The Party,” his second crack at WSOF gold and fighting in his adopted hometown of Sacramento.
