Thiago Silva will make his return to action at UFC on Fuel 2 to face Alexander Gustafsson after an injury forced Antonio Rogerio Nogueira off the card.
UFC officials announced the switch on Tuesday.
According to the release, Nogueira suffered a knee injury that forced him out of the fight with Gustafsson.
Now Thiago Silva will get the opportunity to not only return to action after more than a year away from the sport, but he’ll be in the main event to boot.
Silva sat out almost all of 2011 after a drug test revealed synthetic properties for the urine sample submitted, and he later admitted to taking performance enhancing drugs. The Nevada Athletic Commission suspended Silva for one year for the offense.
Now back in action, Silva will look to get his career on track again and he’ll be facing a top ten opponent in Alexander Gustafsson to do it.
The bout between Gustafsson and Silva will headline the UFC on Fuel card from Sweden on April 14.
