Lightweights Jamie Varner and Gleison Tibau Added to Growing UFC 164 Fight Card

Jamie VarnerA lightweight match-up between former WEC titleholder Jamie Varner and Gleison Tibau has been added to the UFC 164 fight card in Milwaukee.

UFC officials announced the bout on Wednesday.

Varner (21-7-1) returned to the Octagon at UFC 146 against Edson Barboza after competing outside of the organization for a five-year period.  A heavy underdog heading into the fight, Varner defeated Barboza by technical knockout in the first round, logging one of the biggest upsets in 2012.

He was defeated in his next fight by Joe Lauzon, but rebounded with a split decision win over Melvin Guillard in his last outing at UFC 155.

Tibau (27-9) is a UFC veteran.  The fight with Varner will be his twentieth bout in the organization and his third fight in 2013.  Tibau is coming off a submission win over John Cholish in his last outing on May 18.

UFC 164 takes place Aug. 31 at the HMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee. It is headlined by the lightweight title bout between champion Benson Henderson and challenger TJ Grant.
