When looking back over 2015, Legacy FC promoter Mick Maynard feels that not only did his company perform beyond his expectations for itself, but it also helped produce some of the most exciting fighters of the year at the next level.
“It’s been probably our best year ever,” Maynard told MMAWeekly.com. “Every show we had was extremely exciting.
“I truly believe that we’re one of the most exciting promotions in the world, I really do. I think when you tune in to Legacy, you’re going to have a lot of ‘oh s–t’ moments, and that’s what it’s all about.”
Maynard is not only proud of what Legacy was able to do, but feels fighters his company helped send to the UFC also speaks volumes to the quality of what his promotion has been able to produce.
“When you have fighters like Thomas de Almeida and Holly Holm go to the UFC, I think that’s the best representation of how our fighters are: going off to the UFC against a level of competition that’s tougher (and succeeding),” said Maynard.
“Holly is just a wonderful person and we worked closely with her entire team on helping her make the transition from the boxing world. The fact that she pulled off what a lot of people feel was maybe the biggest upset in MMA history, it was an amazing moment.”
As strong as this year has been for Legacy, Maynard thinks there’s potential for an even better 2016.
“We’ve been working on a lot of different things, and I think this could be our biggest year ever, again,” said Maynard. “Obviously, we want to continue on a path of putting on exciting fights with fighters who come to finish.
“If we can continue to have the same exact year in 2016 as we did in 2015, I’ll be ecstatic.”
