The drawing card for next week’s UFC 71 is definitely the feature bout between UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, but there are other promising match-ups on the fight card. Chief among the other fights is a battle between the #7 ranked welterweight fighter in the world, Karo Parisyan, and the fiery Josh Burkman, a fighter knocking on the door to the top ten.
Armenian born, Parisyan is a perpetual contender to the UFC Welterweight Championship, but has yet to align his wins towards a title shot. At 16-4, Parisyan has only lost to UFC Lightweight Champ Sean Sherk (twice), former welterweight king Georges St. Pierre, and fellow contender Diego Sanchez. Coming off of a recent victory over Drew Fickett, a win against Burkman would go a long way towards lining him up for the title shot that he has long been seeking.
Burkman launched his way into the UFC spotlight like many others, with a stint on The Ultimate Fighter. A fiery attitude and raw style to match, Burkman has gone 4-1 in the UFC with his only hiccup being a loss to the #8 ranked Jon Fitch. He’s looking for Parisyan to be his stepping-stone towards a title shot of his own.
