The WEC pay-per-view coming up on April 24 has suffered its first set back as Iranian born fighter, Kamal Shalorus, has been forced out of his lightweight showdown with former champion, Jamie Varner, due to injury.

Varner made the announcement via his Twitter page on Wednesday night, and confirmed the news independently to MMAWeekly.com by text message as well.

At this time, there’s no official word about what injury forced Shalorus out of the bout, but according to Varner it’s enough that will keep him out of the April fight.

With Shalorus out, Varner is left without an opponent, and according to the Arizona native he definitely wants to fight, but was hoping to face a top contender in the division.

Ben Henderson and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone are lined up in the co-main event for the pay-per-view, and Varner has also offered to step in if either one of them are unable to fight due to injury between now and the April 24 fight date.

MMAWeekly.com will have more information on Jamie Varner’s next fight as soon as it becomes available.
