Josh Barnett has passed a drug test and has been cleared to fight on Saturday night’s Pride card in Las Vegas.

Barnett, who is currently the #3 Heavyweight in the MMAWeekly Rankings, had previously taken drug tests on September 27th and October 7th.

The results of those tests had still not been received as of Thursday morning, and if the results still weren’t in by Friday morning, Barnett would not have been cleared to fight as scheduled on Saturday night’s Pride show.

Fortunately, the negative test results came in on Thursday evening and Barnett is now cleared to fight. He announced to the crowd on hand at Caesar’s Palace, “As of today… I’ll be officially licensed in Nevada again and ready to put a stompin’ on somebody.”

The reason that Barnett had to pass a drug test before he could be licensed to fight in Nevada is that the last time Barnett fought in the United States, back in 2002, his post-fight drug test showed up positive for anabolic steroids.

Barnett has now tested negative for all banned substances, so he has been cleared to fight against Judo Gold Medalist Pawel Nastula on Saturday night.
