A possible top contender for the bantamweight division may be determined at WEC 50 as Scott Jorgensen returns to action to face British fighter Brad Pickett on August 18 in Las Vegas.

The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight on Monday.

A winner of four fights in a row, Scott Jorgensen (10-3) was on a very short list of fighters expected to face bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz in his first title defense.

In the end, the WEC went with Joseph Benavidez for the title shot, but Jorgensen will be patient and take another fight in the interim, and he may try to take out his frustrations on 2nd time WEC fighter Brad Pickett.

British export Brad “One Punch” Pickett (19-4) made his way to the WEC for the second time ever in April for the undercard of the pay-per-view, and did not disappoint. Taking on Matt Hume student Demetrious Johnson, Pickett proceeded to have one of the most exciting fights on the card and ended up with a unanimous decision win.

Facing Jorgensen in Las Vegas, Pickett will have the opportunity to rocket to the top of the contender’s list if he can get a win, but the Boise, Idaho native has been on a mission to get the title shot and has looked virtually unstoppable of late.

It’s expected that Jorgensen and Pickett will fill part of the televised main card for the WEC on Versus on August 18.
