It didn’t take Strikeforce officials long to find an opponent for Jorge Gurgel. The former UFC lightweight will face Joe Duarte in the main event on the Strikeforce Challengers 18 fight card on Aug. 12 in Las Vegas.
Gurgel made the announcement on Twitter Wednesday evening.
Starting off his Strikeforce career at 1-2, including back-to-back losses, Gurgel bounced back with a win over Billy Vaughan in less than a minute when they met in March.
The Ohio fighter by way of Brazil will look to make it two in a row when he returns to action in August.
Joe Duarte will make his second appearance under the Strikeforce banner after winning his debut fight on the undercard for the Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley show, where he submitted Saad Awad in the second round via armbar.
Duarte is also a veteran from the eighth season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” but never made an official appearance in the UFC after the show ended.
According to Gurgel’s post, the bout between he and Duarte will serve as the main event for the Aug. 12 Strikeforce Challengers 18 fight card set to go down at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
