John Makdessi Out, Rafaello Oliveira In at UFC 162

Rafaello OliveiraJohn Makdessi has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 162 bout with Edson Barboza due to an unspecified lesion, according to UFC officials.

Barboza will now face Rafaello Oliveira, who has already agreed to step in for the Canadian fighter.

Barboza (11-1) has a spotless professional record blemished by Jamie Varner at UFC 146 last year, but has since bounced back with a victory over Lucas Martins at UFC on FX 7 in January.

Oliveira (15-5) hasn’t fought since July of last year, when he defeated Yoislandy Izquierdo at UFC 148. He was slated to return to the Octagon in December, but suffered a broken hand that has kept him out of action until now.

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva puts his belt on the line against Chris Weidman in the UFC 162 main event on July 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
