It’s a family affair when it comes to the Assuncaos.

That’s what happened recently when former UFC fighter Junior Assuncao attended a show in Virginia titled “Respect is Earned” to corner younger brother Freddy on the undercard for the show.

Junior was also there to watch close friend and Greg Jackson student Ran Weathers compete in the co-main event against local favorite Beau Baker.

Baker got the best of Weathers via a unanimous decision, and Junior decided to throw his hat in the ring to see if he could take hold of the moment and challenge Baker to a future fight.

“I got really frustrated when I saw my friend lose in the main event to local fighter Beau Baker,” Junior said following the event. “No disrespect to Beau, but I just kept hearing the crowd go crazy for him and I kept seeing things that my friend wasn’t executing made me want to get in there.”

The promoter for the event, along with fight managers for both fighters, agreed to let the fight take place in the near future pitting Junior Assuncao vs. Baker.

“I’ll fight anybody but right now, I feel like I am at the best I have ever been,” Junior stated.

As previously mentioned, Freddy, younger brother to Junior and WEC featherweight contender Raphael, picked up the second win of his fledgling professional career over the much more experienced Kevin Roddy.

The youngest of the Assuncao brothers moves to 2-1 as a pro, and looks to make headway into more big fights at 2010 moves on.
