It’s been hard to avoid recent announcements by Strikeforce that women’s 145-pound superstar Gina “Conviction” Carano is back and due to return to action sometime this year, but it doesn’t seem like this was the kind of action the promotion had in mind.

Photos shot on March 9 in Los Angeles show Carano filming a fight sequence with Star Wars alum Ewan McGregor on the set of Haywire (formerly titled Knockout).

The film, which seemingly had wrapped shooting last year, appears to be in re-shoots with director Stephen Soderbergh (Ocean’s 11 series).

With an estimated budget of 25 million dollars, summarizes Haywire as the story of “Black ops super-agent Mallory Kane (Carano) who needs to use her skills, tricks, and abilities to escape an international manhunt to make it back to the U.S., protect her family, and exact revenge on those who betrayed her after a mission goes awry.”

The film, which also stars Michael Douglas (Wall Street), Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra), Antonio Banderes (The Mask of Zorro) and Bill Paxton (Twister), is scheduled to be released some time this August.

There has been no official word on whether or not Carano’s re-shoot schedule in L.A. will affect her return to Strikeforce, though she started training again at Las Vegas’ Xtreme Couture in February. sources have indicated that a tentative plan for her to return on June 18 in Dallas is still the target, though nothing has been finalized.
