FOX Sports Live reported that Melendez will step in for the injured Bobby Green to face Iaquinta in the evening’s co-main event at the Valley View Casino Center.
Melendez (22-5) comes into the fight fresh off his last outing, a split-decision loss to Eddie Alvarez at last weekend’s UFC 188 card in Mexico City. “El Niño” has been part of some of the closest decisions in recent UFC lightweight history, but has ultimately gone 1-3 since coming to the organization from Strikeforce.
Iaquinta (12-3, 1 NC) was also recently part of a split decision, but he came out as the victor over Jorge Masvidal at UFC Fight Night: Mendes vs. Lamas this past April. He has gone 7-2 since coming to the UFC, and is a winner of four in a row.
