Former Strikeforce Fighter Derek Brunson Steps in to Face Chris Leben at UFC 155

December 18, 2012

Strikeforce Middleweight Derek Brunson by Will FoxA late change has been made to UFC 155 and a former Strikeforce fighter will now get to make his Octagon debut.

Strikeforce middleweight Derek Brunson will transition to the UFC and step in to face Chris Leben at UFC 155 according to the fighter who confirmed the fight via Facebook on Tuesday.

“UFC 155 Derek Brunson vs. Chris Leben. Words can’t express how excited I am. Thank you Jesus, time to show up!,” wrote Brunson.

UFC officials have not made any confirmation about the change, but Leben was facing Karlos Vemola on the UFC 155 card. It appears Vemola suffered an injury and will be unable to fight next weekend.

In his place steps Derek Brunson, who looks to bounce back from two losses in a row in recent fights. Brunson dropped a close decision to Kendall Grove in a fight he took on less than a week’s notice, and then fell to former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in his last fight.

Brunson then tried unsuccessfully to make it onto the next season of the Ultimate Fighter before his Strikeforce contract voided that opportunity.

Now Brunson gets the chance to come to the UFC and face Leben at UFC 155 next weekend in Las Vegas.
