Following UFC London Win, Alexander Gustafsson Awaits Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira Winner

Jon Jones Alexander Gustafsson UFC Tour FaceoffAlexander Gustfasson took care of business with his win over Jimi Manuwa in London, and now he’s focused on getting a second fight with Jon Jones.

UFC President Dana White confirmed on Saturday during the post-fight press conference that Gustafsson will now wait for the winner between the light heavyweight champ, Jones, and his UFC 172 opponent Glover Teixeira.

“If Jones wins, we have nasty rematch. If he doesn’t, then it’s [Gustafsson] and Glover Teixeira,” White said.

Gustafsson earned a second-round technical knockout of Manuwa in the main event of Saturday’s fight card, and soon after called out Jones in saying that he “wants his title shot again” and Jones can agree to the fight “whenever you want.”

Without directly saying who he’s picking in the Jones vs. Teixeira showdown, Gustafsson made it clear whom he prefers to face out of the two. “The Mauler” has revenge on his mind.

“I just want to fight him,” Gustafsson said of Jones. “That’s all I want. I want to fight him and I want to finish him.”

Jones and Gustafsson engaged in a Fight of the Year candidate at UFC 165 last September. The Swedish challenger gave Jones the toughest fight of his career, but the champ defended his belt with a unanimous-decision victory.

While all three judges scored the bout for Jones, the results spawned fierce protest on social media and message boards about Gustafsson being robbed of a win, as the bout seemed to have gone in the challenger’s favor for a majority of the 25-minute title fight.

Instead of an immediate rematch, Jones was booked to face Glover Teixeira in a fight that has been rescheduled three times. Gustafsson was matched with Manuwa soon after Jones’ schedule was filled.

The Jones vs. Teixeira match-up is currently scheduled to headline UFC 172, which takes place on April 26 in Baltimore, Md.
