Kenny Florian is set to return to action to face Joe Lauzon on April 2 as part of an UFC Fight Night event leading into the debut of the seventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter” as confirmed by a bulletin released via Florian’s personal website.

“In an announcement that is liable of starting a riot in the streets of all of New England, I will be fighting another Bostonian, Joe Lauzon, on Spike TV on April 2nd during Ultimate Fight Night 13,” he said in the statement.

Florian is currently on a three-fight win streak since dropping a decision to former lightweight champion Sean Sherk, finishing all three opponents in impressive fashion.

In his last fight out, Florian submitted Din Thomas and was rumored to possibly face either Frankie Edgar or Roger Huerta, but the eventual opponent named was none other than fellow Bostonian Joe Lauzon.

“Joe has fought some of the toughest fighters in the game,” commented Florian. “He is a more experienced MMA fighter than myself. Lauzon has a dynamic ground game, slick wrestling and dangerous stand up skills.

“Plus he has been training with one of the best in the game, B.J. Penn. So whether you see this fight as ‘KenFlo vs. Penn protégé, Joe Lauzon’ or if you see this fight as ‘the fight for Boston,’ I am sure it will be an entertaining fight for you.”

Lauzon has gone 2-0 since his appearance on season six of The Ultimate Fighter defeating both Brandon Melendez and Jason Reinhardt by submission.

Although no official venue has been announced for the card, Denver is expected to be the site of the event.

Although the event has yet to be officially announced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship, bouts pitting Stephan Bonnar against Matt Hamill and Spencer Fisher versus Marcus Aurelio are also expected to take place on the card.
