Despite much speculation to the contrary, the March 26 rematch between current World Extreme Cagefighting middleweight champion Paulo Filho and challenger Chael Sonnen has not been cancelled, nor has it been moved to the promotion’s June event.

The speculation started when Brazilian website Tatame.com reported that Filho had been going through a bout of depression and that his fight with Sonnen had been rescheduled for June. The report was subsequently repeated on many other mixed martial arts news sites and blogs.

Filho’s manager Ed Soares, when contacted by MMAWeekly.com, said that Filho had spoken with Tatame, but that they had “caught him in a vulnerable state and he should not have spoken to them, but he did.”

“Everyone goes through some bad times and Paulo was going through some personal problems,” he continued, “but he is altogether now and everyone on his team is pulling together for him to make sure he is prepared to fight Sonnen on March 26.”

Soares went on to say that Filho has been training hard and that his friend, and No. 10 ranked light heavyweight, Ricardo Arona is training with him every day. Current Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva will also join Filho for his final preparations for the bout.
