Mark Weir will not be facing Paul Daley on September 22nd as planned. Weir sustained an injury in his fight against Nick Thompson at the Bodog taping for an upcoming television series.

The outcome of the fight has not been revealed. But win or lose, Weir will not be in a position to compete at Cage Rage 23.

Speaking exclusively to MMAWeekly.com, Paul Daley revealed that his new opponent for Cage Rage 23 is Pride refugee Ryo Chonan.

“Dave O’Donnell called me earlier today and said that Weir was unable to make the fight and asked if I fancied the fight against Ryo Chonan,” said Daley. “Of course I was disappointed to not be fighting Weir, but as it stands, Ryo is an excellent name for me and I am definitely up for that one.”

There is added incentive for Daley as the fight has been upgraded to world title status.

“The good thing about this is I get a crack at the World Cage Rage Welterweight Title, as I asked Dave if this was on the line when he mentioned Chonan.”

Paul Daley faces Ryo Chonan at Cage Rage 23 on September 22nd in London.
