The first match-up for the newly confirmed UFC on Versus 2 card in Salt Lake City has been confirmed as welterweights Jake Ellenberger and John Howard are set to meet on the August card.

The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday with verbal commitments in place at this point, but no bout agreements issued yet. MMADiehards.com first reported the match-up.

Jake Ellenberger was set to take part in the UFC 111 card in New Jersey against Ben Saunders, but the removal of Thiago Alves from the card opened up a spot for Saunders to face Jon Fitch instead. Elleberger was taken care of financially by the UFC due to his bout being removed from the card, and he will now get to return in August instead.

Currently 1-1 in the UFC, Ellenberger gave former WEC champion Carlos Condit everything he could handle in his first UFC bout, and bounced back by getting a TKO over Xtreme Couture fighter Mike Pyle in January.

John Howard returns to action currently holding a 4-0 record in the UFC. His last fight out was a knockout of UFC newcomer Daniel Roberts at the first Versus card in March.

Training out of the new TapouT gym in Boston, Howard will try to make his way up the expanding welterweight division against a very tough foe in Jake Ellenberger.

More fights for the upcoming UFC on Versus card in Salt Lake City are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
