Frankie Edgar will return to action at UFC Fight Night on April 2 and face Xtreme Couture lightweight Gray Maynard, as confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by members of Edgar’s management team.

Edgar, considered one of the top lightweights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has been a rumored participant for the April 2 show for a number of weeks now. He was even mentioned as a possible opponent for Takanori Gomi, who apparently was in negotiations with the UFC before he eventually came to terms with new Japanese organization World Victory Road.

There is no word currently if the fight between Edgar and Maynard will be on the main card or the preliminaries, but the main card currently features four fights that are likely to be televised.

The New Jersey native last competed at UFC 79 in his home state in November where he won a unanimous decision over Spencer Fisher in dominant fashion.

The lightweight standout is also in the final months leading to his wedding and he wanted to get another fight in before taking his nuptials.

The card will be headlined by another lightweight fight featuring the battle of Boston between Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon and the undercard could be one of the most star-studded lists of fights in UFC Fight Night history.

UFC Fight Night will take place on April 2 in Broomfield, Colo. It will serve as the lead in to the seventh season of the Ultimate Fighter reality show.
