MMAWeekly has learned that there have been negotiations between the UFC, WEC Champion Scott Smith, and David Terrell to have the two fight each other at UFC 59 for the company’s California debut at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim. Currently the fight would be set for middleweight, with Smith moving down in weight to make the 185lb limit.

This proposed fight appears to be the result of growing tensions between Smith’s Capital City Fighting Alliance team (which includes current UFC fighter James Irvin) and Terrell’s NorCal Fighting Alliance team (a Cesar Gracie affiliate). The dislike between the two camps seems to be stemming from the ongoing public war of words between NorCal’s Tyson Griffin and Capital City’s Urijah Faber that has been happening since their fight in September of last year.

While Terrell apparently wants to get a fight in April after having been out the past year due to various injuries, Smith on the other hand is still in negotiations and hasn’t recieved a concrete offer.

MMAWeekly is working hard to stay on top of this developing story and will keep you informed as updates happen.
