Darren Till Makes Fight Day Weight to Keep UFC Liverpool Main Event On Track

May 27, 2018

Though Darren Till blew his initial UFC Fight Night 130 weigh-in by 3.5 pounds, he hit the agreed upon mark on fight day, keeping his bout with Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson alive.

Till not only missed weight on Saturday, he missed the official weigh-in. UFC officials said that Till had been dealing with a family emergency, which is why he missed the initial two-hour weigh-in window and had been given an additional hour to make weight. That didn’t matter, as Till stepped on the scale at 174.5 pounds.

Darren Till - UFC Liverpool Weigh-insThompson had made weight straight away, hitting the 171-pound mark as one of the first fighters on the scale. 171 pounds is the allowed limit for a UFC welterweight non-title fight.

In negotiations, Till agreed to forfeit 30-percent of his fight purse to Thompson and to step on the scale again on fight day weighing no more than 188 pounds. If he didn’t hit that mark, Thompson and his team could have still declined the fight.

Though everyone was sweating whether or not Till would hit the mark – he was insistent that it wouldn’t be a good thing for his body, as he is a larger-than-average welterweight – they needn’t have worried. Till stepped on the scale on Sunday at 187.3 pounds, keeping the fight intact without further reason for more negotiations.

Thompson and Till headline an 11-bout fight card from Liverpool, England, Till’s hometown.
