Dana White’s Power Slap league was expected to launch on Jan. 11, but has been removed from the TBS programming schedule. MMAFighting first reported the development on Thursday.
The league was scheduled to debut next Wednesday following AEW Wrestling but it’s no longer listed on the network’s programming schedule. Power Slap has also been removed from the TBS website.
*UPDATED The premiere of Power Slap was pushed back one week and will now launch on Jan. 18.
The league’s removal comes in the aftermath of a video that the surfaced showing White and his wife engaged in a physical altercation at a nightclub in Mexico on New Year’s Eve. White’s wife slapped him and he retaliated by slapping her back.
Dana White Apology
Following the incident, White gave an interview to TMZ Sports detailing the incident and issued an apology.
āIām one of the guys, youāve heard me say for years, thereās never, ever an excuse for a guy to put his hands on a woman, and now here I am on TMZ talking about it,ā continued the UFC president. āMy wife and I have been married for almost 30 years. Weāve known each other since we were 12-years old. Weāve obviously been through some shit together. Weāve got three kids, and this is one of those situations thatās horrible. Iām embarrassed, but itās also one of those situations that is, right now weāre more concerned about our kids. We have three kids, and obviously since the video popped up weāve shown the kids the video. Weāre more focused on our family right now.ā
āPeople are going to have opinions on this, and most of the peopleās opinions would be right, especially in my case. You donāt put your hands on a woman, ever. My wife and I obviously love each other. Weāve been together for a very long time. Weāve known each other since we were very little and this is just one of those unfortunate situations.ā
āThere was definitely a lot of alcohol involved, but thatās no excuse,ā said White. āI am literally making no excuses for this thing at all. Itās never happened before. Itās the first time that itās ever happened, and people are going to say what theyāre going to say. It is what it is, and whatever people do say, itās deserved. I deserve it. It happened. I donāt know why it happened. My wife and I have apologized to each other. Weāve apologized to our kids.
āThis is one of those things that everybody is going to chime in. I could care less what anybody else thinks about this. Right now, weāre more concerned about our kids and taking care of our family.ā
