Dana White Says Chael Sonnen vs. Rashad Evans Could Happen

September 1, 2013

Evans-Sonnen-Titles-Fox-2-460x270With rumors floating around about a potential match-up between UFC light heavyweights Chael Sonnen and Rashad Evans, UFC president Dana White weighed in on the topic on the UFC 164 post-fight show.

“That fight, I started talking to them about it a couple of days ago in Indianapolis and we started talking about some other options as well,” said White. “So I said let’s shut this thing down and get through this weekend and let me get back to Vegas. Me, Lorenzo (Fertitta) and Joe Silva will sit down and see what we want to do.

“It could happen,” he continued. “I don’t hate it.”

Back in the Fox studio, Sonnen gave his side of events, saying that he and Rashad agreed to the fight, but didn’t know if it was official.

“I thought the Rashad fight was likely going to happen and Dana White was quite candid with you,” Sonnen responded, partly tongue in cheek. “He spoke to us both in Indianapolis a couple of days ago, we agreed to the match, but perhaps it was just a bit of dialogue and wasn’t officially offered.”

Sonnen is coming off of a submission victory over Shogun Rua just last month in Boston, which snapped a two fight losing streak, while Evans was last seen in the Octagon in June, when he was awarded a split decision victory over Dan Henderson.
