Dan Hornbuckle, one of the favorites to win the second season welterweight tournament with Bellator Fighting Championships, has signed up and joined American Top Team prior to his first fight with the promotion set for April 22 against Sean Pierson.

Previously training out of Illinois, Hornbuckle has always been a solid fighter, but burst onto the scene in 2009 with two devastating wins over top fighters while competing in Sengoku in Japan.

Earning one of the most vicious knockouts last year, Hornbuckle defeated former UFC welterweight Akihiro Gono, and then moved on just over a month later to TKO Nick Thompson as well.

Bellator announced Hornbuckle’s addition to the welterweight roster a few months ago. When speaking with MMAWeekly.com he said he’s excited to get back into competition, and guaranteed victory in the second season tournament.

“This whole tournament is full of great talent,” said Hornbuckle. “When I win it, it’s going to be that it wasn’t a walk in the park cause everybody was solid coming into the tournament.”

According to representatives from American Top Team, Hornbuckle has already joined them and will complete his training camp before his April debut with Bellator.
