Three UFC fighters – featherweight titleholder Conor McGregor, welterweight champion Robbie Lawler, and former women’s bantamweight champ Holly Holm – have been nominated for this years ESPYs, ESPN’s annual awards show.
McGregor leads charge with two nominations. He will battle it out with Lawler and boxers Gennady Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez, and Roman Gonzalez for Best Fighter. In the Breakthrough Athlete category, McGregor is up against Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta, snowboarder Chloe Kim, and Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns.
Holm was nominated in the Best Upset Category.
Although she lost the belt in her first title defense, Holm upset then champion Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 in November. That victory put her in the Best Upset category opposite the likes of tennis star Roberta Vinci for her win over Serena Williams at the U.S. Open and No. 15-seed Middle Tennessee for defeating No. 2-seed Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament.
Holm is also in a special bracket competition for Best Play of the Year for her Rousey knockout.
The ESPY nominations were announced earlier this week and opened online voting. The results will be aired on July 13 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Fans can vote from now until the live airing of the show on July 13.
