A long-rumored bout between Chael Sonnen and Nate Marquardt is expected for UFC 109, according to sources close to the situation.

UFC 109 is slated for Feb. 6 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, though it has yet to be officially announced by the promotion.

The two were thought to be scheduled for UFC 110 on Feb. 23, but MMAWeekly.com sources said the date and location would not work.

Marquardt (39-8-2) solidified his contender status with key wins over Wilson Gouveia and Demian Maia at UFC 95 and 102, respectively.

Another contender, Dan Henderson, was expected to meet Marquardt in a title eliminator before falling out with the UFC in contract re-negotiations.

It is unknown whether the bout will cement the next contender to current champion Anderson Silva.

Sonnen (35-10-1) surged to the front of middleweight class with a decisive win over Yushin Okami–the only man in the division with a win over Silva–at UFC 104 last month.
