Chad Mendes, who recently inked a deal to fight for World Extreme Cagefighting, will make his promotional debut alongside teammate Joseph Benavidez at WEC 47 on March 6 in Columbus, Ohio.

The news was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fighter’s camp, who indicated an opponent for Mendes’ promotional debut has yet to be determined.

A former NCAA All-American wrestler, Mendes has made a fluent transition to MMA working with another wrestler turned fighter in Urijah Faber.

The former WEC featherweight champion has taken Mendes under his wing. Now the Cal-Poly standout will look to make the same kind of impact on the sport that his coach has had.

The Team Alpha Male fighter also recently signed on with several new sponsors including Amp Energy Drink, Silver Star, and Warrior International, as he prepares for his initiation into the WEC.
