Cat Zingano made her first appearance in the famed UFC Octagon at the TUF 17 Finale on Saturday night in Las Vegas. There is a mountain of pressure on the shoulders of any fighter that sets foot in the Octagon for the first time, but Zingano had much more on her shoulders than the pressure of fighting on the biggest stage in the MMA world.
Zingano had the added stress of being part of just the second women’s fight in UFC history, a spot as a coach on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter on the line, as well as the potential for a shot at UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
First time jitters? You bet!
When you put it all in perspective, it’s no surprise that Zingano had tears rolling down her face when she walked out to the Octagon for the first time in her life.
“I was overwhelmed by the opportunity,” she said after the fight, readily admitting to the fear she had in facing Miesha Tate, a fighter whom she has looked up to since she began competing in MMA.
