Canceled Bouts, Twitter Wars and Now TUF 20, The Feud Between Carla Esparza and Claudia Gadelha

December 12, 2013

Carla Esparza and Claudia GadelhaInvicta FC strawweight champion Carla Esparza was scheduled to face the undefeated Brazilian Claudia Gadelha at Invicta FC 7 on Dec. 7, but Gadelha had to withdraw from the bout the day of the event due to illness.

While the two ladies didn’t go at it in the cage, they later threw down on Twitter.

The exchange began when a fan stated that he thinks Gadelha should fight at 125-pounds and challenge champion Barb Honchak instead of fighting at 115-pounds. Esparza quoted the tweet and stated, “Would b awesome fight.”

Gadelha may have thought the quote was from Esparza and responded.

Esparza quickly fired back.

The exchange went on for more than two hours. Esparza’s best friend Felice Herrig joined the conversation.

Esparza and Gadelha have been scheduled to fight twice. They were supposed to fight for the inaugural Invicta FC strawweight title at Invicta FC 4 but Gadelha had to pull out of the fight due to a broken nose. Herring fought on the Invicta FC 7 card, losing to Tecia Torres by unanimous decision. Gadelha responded to Herrig’s comments.

Esparza fired back.

Esparza called out Torres following her win over Herrig at Invicta FC 7 and that didn’t sit well with Gahelha.

Herrig and Esparza suggested that Gadelha wasn’t sick and simply had a bad weight cut.

Gadelha posted the paperwork from the hospital with her diagnosis and treatment, but Esparza wasn’t buying it.

The exchange got so heated that who had the better behinds was brought into the argument.

The ladies eventually calmed down and moved on, but that likely won’t be the end of the feud. Esparza, Herrig and Gadelha were recently signed to the UFC and will compete on The Ultimate Fighter 20 to crown the inaugural UFC strawweight champion. The three will live under the same roof and potentially have to fight on the show. Should make for some good television.
