SANTA ROSA, CALIF. – A great night of fights at the Santa Rosa Fairgrounds, in Northern California. It looked to be a sold out crowd for the latest Cage Combat event where almost all of the fighters were local talent.

The first fight pitted 155lb. fighters CJ Thompson of West Coast Fighters against Kyle Rideau of Kyoujin. The first round had Rideau in control and trying for many submissions, which Thompson defended. But round two was all Thompson. Rideau couldn’t get up between rounds and didn’t answer the bell for the third.

The second fight was also in the 155lb. division –in my opinion the fight of the night – and showcased Yusuke Ikenishi of Team PureBreed vs. David Douglas with Cesar Gracie. Most of this fight was on the feet with each guy throwing bombs. Both fighters used the clinch to set up vicious knees and punches to the other. In round three, Douglas nailed Ikenishi with a hard right and opened a cut over his eyebrow. The doctor was called in and stopped the fight. Douglas collapsed exhausted in his corner after the stoppage.

The third fight pitted light heavyweights Kawika Morton of Axis Academy against Raphael Davis of the Shamrock Fight Team. Raphael won via submission in the first.

The fourth fight of the night was supposed to be a middleweight affair featuring Alija Reni of Team Fury vs. Bon Kim of Marin MMA, but Reni didn’t show.

In another 155lb. bout, Terrance Dickens of CA MMA faced Bobby Stack of World Team USA. Stack won his pro-fight debut due to ref stoppage from blows in round two.

Bobby Merrill of Team Spain squared off with Isaiah Hill of Nor Cal Fight Factory in another lightweight contest. The fight started with Merrill taking down Hill and then backed up to the cage. Hill regained his footing only to be thrown to the mat with an awesome judo throw by Merrill. Hill was mounted and received elbows to the face. He promptly gave his back and Merrill sunk in the rear naked choke to end the fight.

David Mitchell of Nor Cal Fighting Alliance faced Drew Dimanlag of Nor Cal Fight Factory in the welterweight division. Mitchell threw kicks and backed Dimanlag into the cage. Mitchell had him in a number of submissions, but Dimanlang was able to defend against them. Dimanlag made the mistake of holding his left elbow in the corner between rounds. Mitchell seemed to notice and was able to tap out Dimanlang with an arm bar in round two. Both fighters were very aggressive throughout the fight.

The eighth fight of the night, Frank Gomez of Fairtex fought Andy Miranda of Bohlander Fight Team. Round one went back in forth with both fighters showing excellent skills. In round two Gomez threw Miranda down and landed some bombs to his head. Gomez was able to get Miranda’s back and won by rear naked choke.

In a featherweight bout, Chris Carisao of Fight n Fitness took on David Barrios of Nor Cal Fight Factory. This fight was all Carisao. Round one saw Carisao take Barrios down and move into half guard commencing ground and pound. In round two, Barrios was knocked out cold by a high kick.

At 170lbs., Kyle Pimental of Nor Cal Fighting Alliance fought Juan Aleain of Shamrock Fight Team. Pimental basically dominated Aleain for the first two rounds. In the third, Pimental got to the full mount position and submitted Aleain via an arm bar.

In the final bout of the night, Jack Montgomery of LA BJJ-USA faced James Terry of Team USH. Through three rounds, Montgomery pretty much did whatever he wanted for all three rounds, but wasn’t able to finish Montgomery. The unanimous decision went to Montgomery.
