UFC on Monday announced that No.5 heavyweight contender Ben Rothwell will face No.6 heavyweight Junior dos Santos in the main event for the organization’s debut event in Croatia on Sunday, April 10 at Arena Zagreb.
Rothwell (36-9) is coming off an impressive win against MMA legend Josh Barnett at UFC Fight Night: Johnson vs. Bader on Jan. 30. He’s earned a performance bonus in two of his last three outings. He’s finished his last four opponents and is poised to make a run at the heavyweight title.
Former UFC heavyweight champion dos Santos (17-4) will be looking to put himself back into title contention following a loss against Alistair Overeem at the end of last year. The Brazilian holds wins over some of the biggest names in heavyweight division including current heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum, former titleholders Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez, Croatian legend Mirko Cro Cop and, more recently, title contender Stipe Miocic.
The headlining bout has serious title implications with the winner potentially earning a title shot. The event will air live from Zagreb Arena on FOX Sports 1.
UFC Fight Night: Rothwell vs. Dos Santos will be dominated by the heavy hitters and features the notable debuts from former M-1 Global champion Marcin Tybura and Serbian Bojan Mihajlovic, who will take on French newcomer Francis Ngannou.
