It looked like it would be the fight of the night for UFC 54. Babalu Sobral looked to square off against Randy Couture in a co-main event in Las Vegas in August.
That all changed when Sobral tore a rotator cuff in training. MMAWeekly reports that Babalu had surgery on Monday. Everything went well, but he will need to rest and take it easy for the first 2 weeks, then go through six weeks of therapy.
He is expected to make a successful recovery. Babalu believes he will be healthy enough to fight on the October UFC card (rumored to be in Los Angeles, but at this stage it’s still a rumor.)
