Assuerio Silva was supposed to face Tim Sylvia at UFC 54, but a major knee injury to the Brazilian in training changed everything and it was Tra Telligman who stepped up to fight the 6’8 former champion. Now the Brazilian is back on course for a January return.

It looks as though the UFC will put together a January 16th show LIVE on Monday night on Spike TV and if Assuerio’s knee continues to progress, he will face the big man Sylvia.

It will be over a year since Ausserio’s last fight. Silva competed in Jungle Fight 3 defeating Alessio Sakara by decision. That fight took place back in October of 2004. He also had an impressive win over Fabiano Scherner earlier that year with a guillotine choke.

Silva’s record is 10-3 as he gets set to make his UFC debut. Sylvia has won 18 of his 20 fights and is coming off an impressive KO win over Tra Telligman where he knocked out Telligman with a spectacular high kick. Sylvia has also signed a new three fight deal with the UFC.
