Two very unique strikers are set to meet at UFC 128 in New Jersey as former WEC fighter Anthony Njokuani makes his Octagon debut against Brazilian Edson Barboza Jr. in a lightweight bout on the March 19 card.
The fight was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight on Tuesday. MMAJunkie.com initially reported the bout.
Anthony Njokuani (13-4) makes his move over the UFC with a few highlights already to his credit. His stunning head kick knockout of Chris Horodecki still gets plenty of replays, as well as his blasting TKO win over Bart Palaszewski.
The Las Vegas based fighter dropped two in a row however falling on tougher times in the WEC before bouncing back with another TKO win over Edward Faaloloto in November to insure his move to the UFC.
Welcoming Njokuani to the UFC will be Brazilian striker Edson Barboza Jr. (7-0) making his second appearance for the promotion.
Barboza impressed everyone with his vicious leg kick attack on opponent Mike Lullo at UFC 123 in Detroit, bringing comparisons to UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. Barboza, who trains full time now in Florida, will look to make it two straight in the UFC when he faces Njokuani in March.
The fight between Njokuani and Barboza has not been officially announced by the UFC, so at this point there’s no telling if it will make the televised broadcast or not.
