UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes is preparing to put her belt on the line for the third time when she meets Raquel Pennington in the UFC 224 main event on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Nunes has had issues with her sinuses prior to some of her past fights for which doctors have recommended surgery. The Brazilian champion doesn’t like the idea of surgery, which she believes could make her nose more sensitive to bleeding and other issues.

Though her sinus issues have not gone away and she has thus far opted out of surgical options, Nunes is dealing with the issue. Heading into the fight with Pennington, Nunes has tried some new treatments, which include a nose spray and something a little more alternative… sitting in a salt room.

“I did some treatments with a nose spray and have a new thing I’ve been doing right now, it’s a salt room,” Nunes explained at Thursday’s UFC 224 Media Day in Brazil. “It’s a room (with) only salt, on the wall, on the floor. You breathe in the room the salt. It is very good for open your lungs to sinuses, everything. I got way better since I started doing (it).

“The doctor suggests the surgery, but I’m really concerned about the surgery. But I feel amazing, all the treatments work very well.”
