Bellator world champion Zoila Gurgel will have to wait a bit longer to get back into the cage after suffering a knee injury.
Gurgel was set to face Carina Damm in a super fight on the Bellator 57 card on Nov. 12, but she has now suffered a severe injury in training that will put her back on the sidelines for a few months.
“I just took an MRI of my knee yesterday and results came back, I completely tore my ACL,” Gurgel wrote on her Twitter account.
“If it was up to me, I still was planning on fighting. I am able to still move forward and box, and I am very confident in that and my cardio, but doctor and coaches say ‘no way in hell!’. So it’s off to surgery hopefully soon and back to training ASAP. Like I said, it’s God’s will.”
Gurgel has been out of action since earlier this year dealing with a fracture in her hand suffered during her win over Karina Hallinan back in March.
Now unfortunately, Bellator’s 115lb champion will be sidelined again as she awaits knee surgery and works her way back, presumably in 2012.
