Zach Makovsky vs. Josh Sampo Flyweight Fight Agreed for UFC 170

Zach Makovsky 460x270Two of the UFC’s newest flyweights will battle it out at UFC 170, as Zach Makovsky and Josh Sampo have verbally agreed to fight.

MMAWeekly.com sources confirmed the bout first reported by FoxSports.com.

Having made a name for himself as the Bellator’s first bantamweight champion, Makovsky (17-4) won the RFA flyweight championship on Nov. 22 before moving to the UFC. He was signed as a late replacement to fight Scott Jorgensen at UFC on Fox 9 on Dec. 14 after John Dodson had to pull out of the fight due to injury.

Makovsky won his UFC debut, dominating Jorgensen en route to a unanimous decision victory.

Sampo (11-2) made his promotional debut two weeks prior to Makovsky. He submitted Ryan Benoit at The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale on Nov. 30.

Prior to signing with the UFC, Sampo was the CFA flyweight champion and previously fought for the burgeoning Legacy Fighting Championship.

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey puts her belt on the line against fellow former Olympian Sara McMann in the UFC 170 main event on Feb. 22 in Las Vegas.
