Once considered the top lightweight in the UFC, Yves Edwards is headed back to the Octagon as the master of Thug-jitsu himself will face John Gunderson at UFC Fight Night in Austin, TX on September 15.
The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight on Wednesday, stating that the fight has been offered and accepted by both parties.
A multi-time veteran of the UFC, Yves Edwards (38-16-1) has always been considered one of the top lightweights, and toughest match-ups in the sport. Spending the last few years fighting in different organizations, Edwards is coming off a win over Luis Palomino in Bellator Fighting Championships just last week.
Going 4-1 over his last five fights, Edwards only loss in that span was a controversial decision to Mike Campbell at the Moosin MMA show in May.
Facing Edwards in his return bout will be John Gunderson (23-8-1) making his third appearance in the UFC, going 1-1 so far in his time with the promotion.
Bouncing back from a loss to Rafaello Oliveira in his debut fight, Gunderson took out Mark Holst by decision at the “Ultimate Fighter” season 11 finale show in June.
The bout between Edwards and Gunderson will likely occupy a spot on the untelevised undercard, although no confirmation has been made about the fight from the UFC.
